Life began in the sea so it’s only natural people go to the sea to rejuvenate and restore. For almost two centuries, people have journeyed to idyllic Nevlunghavn like the flocks of rare birds that return here each year. They are all drawn by the same reason - to refresh, recreate and live life to the fullest.

Nevlunghavn Guesthouse on the Skagerak (the stretch of sea separating Denmark and Norway) has the kind of magic one expects at a seaside hotel. Centuries of maritime history, heroic tales about local ships pilots, and tragic shipwrecks.

Since life started in the sea, it’s natural to celebrate life’s special occasions here - amidst azure-blue water and waves and white wooden houses on the Skagerak… It’s the perfect place for folks to gather, reflect and enjoy life.

Guests always get a little extra from Nevlunghavn Guesthouse. Attentiveness is our forte. From serving guests atop a nearby hilltop vista of the sea, to hosting musicians you’ve always dreamed about hearing.  Nothing’s impossible! Challenge us with your mind’s eye and we’ll strive to make it happen.


Work seminars are more productive in the sea air. Strategic thinking is clearer when there’s an ocean view and seminar participants form stronger bonds around new ideas conceived at memorable locations.  


We can and prefer to exclusively rent out the entire hotel to your group. We have good suggestions, We can and will surprise you!

Since everything began in the sea, it is of course best to celebrate life here too. Blue boats and white houses by the Skagerak are the perfect setting for gathering people you love. If you are going to gather good friends or family, we can recommend Bredalsbua at Brygga.

Here you can have your private event for up to 30 people. The freshest shrimp and crayfish from our own fish reception with all the accessories that make guests happy. Our chef and team are ready to give you and your group a great event.

OUR FAVORITES

  • BACK TO THE SEA

    Bathers have been dipping their toes in the sea at Nevlunghavn since 1844. The present bathing house hotel was built in 1920 and became a desired destination for wealthy European gadabouts in the ensuing years. Even the legendary Swedish/American actress Greta Garbo visited here.

    The morning sea bath is a tradition at Nevlunghavn and you see people mingling about unabashedly in bathrobes. The hotel is a very short distance to the sea and a refreshing morning swim.  

  • KAJAKING

    Be your own captain and borrow one of our kayaks for a paddle tour out to one of many skerries, inlets and sandy beaches along the coastline. Nothing soothes the the soul more than gliding silently over the deep blue sea in a kayak. We hire out kayaks during the tourist season and can arrange guided tours.  

  • WALKING AND JOGGING

    There are numerous fine walking paths and jogging trails in the vicinity of the hotel – both along the sea and through the forest. Ask us for a map and we’ll provide you with tips about the best local routes. Want to take along a packed lunch? Just ask!

  • BORROW A BIKE

    Bicycling is a local tradition in Nevlunghavn. There are a number of fine bike trails, including one that goes all the way to the town of Stavern some 15 kilometers away. Take a picnic basket provided by the hotel and find a secluded beach along the way. Ask us too about secret scenic spots that are a short pedal away.
